Conservative, Sexy, Cool: Spring 2013

Lace, Brocade Prints, and Modest Necklines are the epitome of vintage fashion. These styles have consistently been glorified in the world of vintage and were very present on the Spring 2013 Runways. Japanese designer Tadashi Shoji knocked it out of the park with his designs during New York Fashion Week. He took the conservative nature of vintage inspired fashion and sexed it up with sheer detailing and coveted silhouettes that even a flat chested, no butt, hip-less fashion lover like me could feel sexy in. With a background in designing for A-list stars of the 70s including Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Neil Diamond, The Jacksons, and Earth, Wind, & Fire, he is no stranger to creating amazingness inspired from the hippie vibes of the vintage eras. Check out some of my favorite pieces from the collection below.

A Little Style Makes the Holiday Right

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVE EVERYONE!!!

I hope you scoured the malls and vintage shops using the gift ideas from my "Give a Little Vintage Cheer" post and found the perfect items for everyone on your holiday gift list. I too was one of the unlikely masses standing in 30 minute long lines hoping to put a smile on the faces of my loved ones. By 2 o'clock pm I finally unloaded my car and did my happy dance singing "I did it, I did it, I did it yay". (in my Dora the Explorer voice of course)

Since the boy bailed on me this year to hang with his family (yea I'm a little salty) our Wrapping and Wine tradition is a no-go. Instead I've resorted to pizza, holiday music, and blogging. I have so much time on my hands and holiday inspiration from the tunes blaring throughout the house that I've come up with some last minute holiday look essentials. Hope these vintage must haves make holiday styling much easier.

 RED LIPSTICK

Say Merry Christmas with pouty red lips. Instead of wiping your cheeks from the lipstick of grandmothers and aunts, mark them with your favorite shade of red. Don't be afraid to pair this bold lip color with other holiday inspired attire. No need to be matchy matchy. Holidays are for extra-ness!!! Take tips from Jennifer Hudson, Kourtney Kardashian, and Rosario Dawson for some holiday inspiration.

BABY BLUE

Who woulda thought baby blue to be a holiday color? It didn't start with me. Take advice from Diana Ross The Diva. Accessorize your holiday look with baby blue jewelry. Style yourself in blue on blue in contrasting shades. or pair with red. Have a holiday blast.

LACE

How many holiday outfits do you remember wearing as a kid with lace? Well personally I can't remember a year I went without it. So why change the tradition. Wear your grown up lace dress with tights and a cardi to keep you warm. Try holiday colored lace to combine all holiday inspiration in one. If opting for winter white lace pair your look with bold accessories.

Shhhhh...Don't Tell Her Secret

You would think I've obviously been hiding under a rock for the last week since I just saw the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show a few nights ago. Instead, I'll blame the academic prison some like to call college and the burden of finals. Initially, I must admit that my middle school dreams of one day gracing that runway with record breaking wings came back and I internally cursed my parents for my height impairment. I eventually composed myself half way through the first scene and focused on the fashions that the infamously flirty models were wearing. Scene 5 interestingly titled "Spell on You" caught my attention the most. The Marie Antoinette inspiration with such easily recognizable vintage musings was to die for. Models wearing lace, puff sleeves, tapestry designs, top hats, and bustles were reminiscent of everything my vintage addiction has come to love. Since most of these looks aren't quite R-T-W unless at a costume party, burlesque show, or carnival, my inspiration stops here. See some of my favorite looks and pretend Victoria has given you some wings and strut your stuff around your apartment or down the hallway at work. Just make sure you don't get caught...its a Secret!!!

Just Vintage

Tweed is such a classic winter style. With colors ranging from browns to grays, to blues, it is such a simple timeless statement piece. Instead of the tweed newsboy caps I used to see my uncles cover their balding heads with, a sexy version of a tweed pant suit is to die for. Layer with floral prints, and you have the perfect look to blow your colleges in the office away. Put a sophisticated twist on the school picture day floral get-ups your mother made you wear with matchy floral or printed suits and have the perfect happy hour look. Throw an inevitably warm fur in the mix, a touch of lace, and maybe a splash of red and you have Cavalli's F/W collection in a nutshell.

I am utterly and completely in love with the Just Cavalli 2011 - 2012 Fall/Winter Collection. This collection gave birth to a beautiful combination of tweed, floral, prints, lace, and furs. All of which are my fall/winter inspiration. The debut of this collection was earlier this year but seeing the newest editorial got me so excited I had to blog from work. Here are some of my favorite looks to warm up such a cold day...
